Will a 43-inch TV fit?

Start with the 37.5-inch screen width (95.2 cm). That is the picture area, so a space exactly this wide is not enough to confirm a fit. The frame adds width, and a manufacturer may use a slightly different actual diagonal for a TV sold in the 43-inch class. Use the full model dimensions before choosing furniture or a wall recess.

The screen itself is 21.1 inches tall (53.5 cm). A tabletop installation also needs room for the stand. Check the assembled height, foot spacing, stand depth and furniture weight limit separately. For a wall installation, allow for the bracket, cable connections and the ventilation clearances specified in the TV manual.

How large will it look?

For this screen, a seat about 5.8 feet away produces a 30° horizontal viewing angle. Moving to about 4.3 feet increases that angle to 40°, so more of your field of view is filled by the picture. These are geometry examples, not a universal comfort recommendation. Your eyesight, content and preference still matter.

Measure from your normal eye position to the screen plane, rather than from the front of the sofa to the wall. Try the room preview to explore viewing distance, and use tape to outline a 37.5 by 21.1-inch rectangle in your own space.

Before choosing this size

Moving from 43 to 48 inches adds 24.6% more screen area. The 48-inch screen is 4.4 inches wider, which is often the more useful number when checking a cabinet. Compare at the same scale, then confirm the exact model’s specifications.

All figures here are calculated from an exact 43-inch diagonal and a 16:9 rectangle, rounded for display. Sizes vary by model. Always confirm with the manufacturer's spec sheet before buying. See how we calculate screen dimensions.

Measure around the edges of a compact space

For an alcove or small cabinet, note trim, doors, and shelves that could obstruct the body or ventilation path. A calculated screen rectangle does not include these requirements. Check the narrowest point of the opening rather than only the center.

A 43-inch screen at two distances

4 ft (1.22 m)

42.7° horizontal viewing angle

6 ft (1.83 m)

29.2° horizontal viewing angle

These distances are worked examples, not recommended limits. Both use the same 37.5 by 21.1-inch screen. Only the eye-to-screen distance changes. Move between those positions when checking a physical outline to see the difference for yourself.

For a desk or cabinet, write down the usable support width and depth, then compare them with the model’s stand footprint. Screen height alone does not tell you the assembled height.
