Give every piece its space.

Plan a rectangular room with measured furniture footprints. Move and rotate up to ten items, check your chosen clearances, and share the layout.

Your furniture

Up to 10 measured rectangles. Select one to edit its footprint and clearance.

Selected item

Dimensions and positions use inches. Clearance is your chosen space around this rectangle.

Drag to move. Or focus a rectangle and use arrow keys for 1-inch steps, Shift + arrows for 12-inch steps, R to rotate and Delete to remove. The dashed outline shows the selected clearance. Filled black means a conflict.

Start with the usable room

Measure the inside width and length between finished walls. This planner treats the room as one rectangle. Alcoves, angled walls and built-in features need a separate check. The light grid uses 12-inch squares, equivalent to 30.48 cm. Switch the site units to enter dimensions in centimeters while keeping the same physical layout.

Add the outside footprint of each item, including any part that extends over the floor. A tabletop may be wider than its legs, for example. The example sofa and table are editable rectangles, not specifications for a product. Replace them with measurements from your own furniture or the manufacturer’s drawing.

Clearance you can control

The clearance field adds the same amount of space around all four sides of an item. The selected item’s dashed outline shows that zone. A conflict appears if another item’s footprint enters it or if it crosses a room wall. The planner checks each item’s chosen clearance individually. Two empty clearance zones may overlap without a conflict.

This is useful for a rough walking gap or access space, but it is not a substitute for the exact clearance rules of an appliance, accessibility requirements or a fire-safety assessment. A door swing is curved, and a reclining chair changes shape. Represent the maximum required footprint as a larger rectangle and explain it in the item name.

What the area number means

In the initial 12 × 15-foot room, the total area is 180 square feet. The 84 × 36-inch sofa covers 21 square feet, and the 36 × 24-inch table covers 6 square feet. With no overlap, 153 square feet remain uncovered. That is about 14.21 m².

When furniture overlaps, the covered region is counted once. An item outside the room only contributes the part inside the walls. The uncovered figure does not subtract clearance zones and does not tell you whether the remaining floor forms a useful walkway.

Common questions

Can I move furniture without dragging?

Yes. Select it in the list and edit the distances from the left and top walls. You can also focus a rectangle on the drawing and use the arrow keys. Each press moves 1 inch, or 2.54 cm. Hold Shift for 12-inch steps. Press R to rotate or Delete to remove it.

Why does rotating an item show a conflict?

Rotation keeps the rectangle’s center in place and swaps its width and depth. Its new edge may cross a wall or enter another footprint. Move it back into the usable space, then check the clearance again.

Is my room saved?

The plan stays in this page’s memory. Create a share link to keep a copy or send it to someone. The link contains the room dimensions, item names and positions. Anyone with that link can read those details, so avoid including private information in item names.

Does a clear layout guarantee furniture will fit?

No. This checks rectangular footprints, overlaps and the clearance you entered. It does not check ceiling height, sockets, windows, structural support, door movement or the delivery route. Use the delivery path checker for individual doors and straight sections before ordering a large item.
