Calculating your screen…

Measure from your usual seat

Sit in your normal viewing position and measure from the floor to your eyes. The initial 42-inch value is an editable example, not a rule. Reclined seating, an obstruction below the TV or a tilted screen can change the position you prefer.

The bottom screen edge equals eye height minus half the screen height. The top edge equals eye height plus half the screen height. These values exclude the bezel. Tape out the full model dimensions on your wall before deciding on placement.

A mounting bracket may sit above or below the screen center. This tool does not calculate screw holes or structural requirements. Follow the instructions for your TV, bracket and wall construction.

The screen height is about 31.9 inches, so half of it extends above the 42-inch center and half below. Adding a bezel changes the outside edges of the complete TV. Use your specific model’s drawing when checking a cabinet or soundbar underneath.

Common questions

Is 42 inches the recommended mounting height?

No. It is an editable seated-eye-height example. Measure your own seating position. The tool uses that value for the screen center and calculates the top and bottom from the diagonal.

Does the result tell me where to drill?

No. Mounting holes and brackets may be offset from the center. Wall construction and fasteners are outside this calculation. Use the mounting template and instructions supplied for your TV and bracket.

What if I recline or need the TV higher?

Your usual eye direction and room layout can change the position you choose. Mark the full screen outline with removable tape and view it from your seat. This tool does not calculate tilt, neck comfort or a bracket’s adjustment range.
