A delivery route has more than one measurement
A roomy destination does not guarantee an easy delivery. Measure the entrance, internal doors and the narrowest hallway on the way. Include thresholds, hinges, handrails and anything else that reduces the clear space. Measure the object at its widest, tallest and deepest points, not just the main body.
This tool checks straight rectangular spaces independently. With upright transport, it tests both floor rotations while keeping the height fixed. With unrestricted orientation, it tests all six right-angle arrangements. It does not tilt an item diagonally or trace the movement around a corner.
A worked example
Consider an unboxed item 30 inches wide, 70 inches high and 28 inches deep. Through a 32 × 80-inch doorway, turning it on the floor puts the 28-inch side across the opening. That leaves 4 inches of total width and 10 inches of height. The result reports the smallest gap: 4 inches, or 10.2 cm.
If its box is 33 × 73 × 31 inches, the best upright orientation leaves only 1 inch across that same doorway. The box changes the answer. Even a positive gap is not a guarantee that hands, blankets or a moving trolley will fit too.
Read the result in context
- Fits this section means the best permitted right-angle orientation leaves at least 1 inch in every checked dimension.
- Tight fit means the smallest total gap is between zero and 1 inch. An exact fit has no practical margin.
- Does not fit gives the smallest deficit in the best tested orientation. It does not rule out every possible diagonal maneuver.
Common questions
Can I use this for a TV, fridge or sofa?
Yes, when you enter the complete outside measurements and use the orientation allowed by the manufacturer. Keep upright selected for any item that must stay upright. Do not assume that an item can safely lie flat just because the geometric result improves.
Does it check stairs or a tight corner?
No. A turn needs a continuous movement check, including the approach, landing, ceiling height and the object’s swept space. Passing two straight sections separately does not prove that the transition works. Record those dimensions and discuss a difficult route with the delivery team.
Why can cargo space pass while the item will not load?
The inside of a vehicle may be bigger than its hatch or door. Add the loading opening as its own door check, then check the compartment. Seats, wheel arches, sloped glass and tie-down space can also reduce usable space. A rectangular compartment is only an approximation.
Should I remove packaging or doors?
Only if the product, packaging and delivery instructions allow it. Enter a second set of measurements for the actual proposed configuration. This tool does not assume handles, feet or doors are removable.
Once it is inside, use the room planner to arrange its footprint and your chosen clearances.
